What Motivates Us At Fanny Bay Oysters?

Man in orange lifevest holding tray of oysterBuilding a sustainable business to pass down to future generations is important to us, that’s why we are dedicated to protecting the waters in which our shellfish live, supporting our local farming communities and partnering with educational outreach programs.

As part of the British Columbia Shellfish Growers Association we actively seek to grow the shellfish industry that gives back to the environments we work in. We work with non-profit groups to educate youth about marine and environmental stewardship. Cultivating the next generation of scientists, environmentalists and farmers is a passion of ours. We believe supporting education for students will result in a more informed and involved public in the present as well as the future. Water Quality Protection

Man holding oyster with gauging instrument attachedOur business depends on clean water and for that reason we are committed to water quality protection. We support many groups doing on-the-ground work protecting and restoring habitat and improving the health of local watersheds. We actively persue research and technology that will help us shape the future of the BC seafood industry. We also focus on water quality related research and monitoring efforts throughout British Columbia as climate change is rapidly effecting our ocean chemistry and therefore how we farm.

Next Generation of Farmers

Ship crew harvesting oysters on Fanny BayOur family has been growing shellfish for five generations, and we want to continue to help British Columbia be the best sustainable shellfish producers in the world. By supporting local aquaculture education programs, working with federal and provincal agencies, and community outreach we hope to continue to inspire the next generation of shellfish farmers in our region.
